Managing online communities

Between facebook, twitter, email, nings, other distractions, and the work load many of us carry, how do you maintain them all? For me, I try to get to nings, but never seem to have the time. I also want to learn how to get around in SL. Which communities are the most important to you and how do you balance with the most important community of all (your family?)

Just a musing for today...

  1. The question of balance is one that keeps popping up in my life. I drop in and out of Facebook; a facebook Gadget for iGoogle is helping me to better stay on top of it. I've joined a few Nings, but can't say I've experienced a lot of success with them--I really haven't put in the needed effort (the time problem again). Twitter is the most constant thing in my life. My tweeting is sporadic, but it is so easy to read others' tweets and follow the links. Again time is the issue; if life is busy I'll read Twitter and follow the occasional link. If I have more time I explore, converse and share more on Twitter. What's SL? Just kidding ;-) SL is something that I'm pretty sure I don't have the time for so I haven't really checked it out yet.

    Thanks for sharing your musings!

  2. I am hoping to have a buddy show me what to do in SL. No time to figure it out otherwise. I twitter infrequently - mostly can't at school. Facebook is a few moments here and there. Need a better pan for management and definitely better at turning it all off when I need to get work done. Turning off the TV is another thing!
