I sent this email out to some members of my PLN. I hope you will read it and help a student out:
I would like to ask for some help on behalf of one of my students. A senior created curriculum for a graduation project about conservation for the elementary grades. She will be teaching for one of our teachers. She is timing it this week with the project350 this Saturday. She wanted originally to have a local gathering in this area for the event. As we live in a rural area, the use of fuel, etc. to get there defeats the purpose.
Here is her idea:
1. Have people tweet their goal/ideas for conserving energy/resources on Saturday the 24th (you can start the day before). Please use the hashtag #dayofaction with your tweet. It can be as simple as running washers/dishwashers with a full load.
2. She will track the tweets to use for additional curricula/ideas as well as part of her project.
3. As twitter and a bunch of other apps are blocked at school, the additional effect is to show how social media can be used productively. This is a fight in our district. We hope that there are a bunch of tweets to show the power of PLN's.
Here is an example tweet:
Unplug chargers from the wall as they still draw energy #dayofaction
Adding the #dayofaction allows us to follow al the tweets made.
What I need: Can you please tweet/email/blog your PLN, listservs, etc. to help out? I will be tweeting/blogging through this week and day of action tweets can start even on Friday if more convenient. I appreciate all of your help. She is extremely tech savvy, blogs, and is an activist. She is really excited about this project.
Thank you so much,
Louise Maine

Ah, my turn to be an idiot.
ReplyDeleteJust how to the hashtags work? DO you want us to send ideas via Twitter using this hashtag? Talk to me like I was born in the 1950's. =)
Sorry. Should have been more specific. Here is an example of a tweet:
ReplyDeleteUnplug chargers from the wall as they still draw energy #dayofaction
We are able to search the #dayofaction for all the ones that are said that day. Pretty clever. In fact, you can also follow it through a reader as well.
I have amended my post as well with the example.
I personally like your websites; you have shared good information, useful one. Wow, that is really great you used twitter to help them learn new things and for communication also.
